Last week, PredictAYA partner Karolinska University Hospital inaugurated the Long-term Follow-Up Clinic After Cancer in Young Adulthood. The clinical service provides structured long-term follow-up for both children (diagnosed 0-18 years) and young adults (diagnosed 18-30 years) treated for cancer.
The clinic focuses on the prevention and early detection of late effects, personalised survivorship care, rehabilitation and patient empowerment. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, patients receive tailored follow-up based on their treatment history and individual risk profile.
The launch reflects a growing international recognition that cancer survivorship extends far beyond the end of treatment.
“Life after cancer is long when you are diagnosed at a young age. New questions, needs and challenges may arise long after treatment has ended, which is why long-term follow-up is so important,” noted representatives from the patient organization Ung Cancer.
The clinic is part of the PanCare4AYA study, and the initiative supports the broader vision shared by PredictAYA and other European survivorship programmes: ensuring that every young person affected by cancer has access to evidence-based, person-centred long-term follow-up care.
Congratulations to our PredictAYA member Jeanette Winterling and her colleagues at the Karolinska University Hospital!
