PredictAYA kicks off in Stockholm

The PredictAYA project officially launched with a two-day kick-off meeting on June 17–18, 2025, hosted by Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. The event brought together leading experts in AYA oncology and reproductive health across Europe to begin work on improving the understanding and management of late effects of cancer treatment in adolescents and young adults (AYAs).

The meeting was opened by PredictAYA coordinator Professor Kenny Rodriguez-Wallberg (Karolinska Institutet), followed by sessions introducing the project’s governance structure, data management and ethics framework. Key discussions also focused on communications and dissemination strategies, stakeholder engagement, and epidemiological studies of late effects across European cohorts.

Throughout the first day, work package leaders presented their objectives and tasks, such as clinical research on fertility preservation and reproductive health after cancer treatment, post-cancer quality of life, pharmacogenetic modelling, and data harmonisation for statistical analyses. The day concluded with a social program in the Stockholm archipelago.

On the second day, project partners convened in smaller working groups to begin shaping early activities such as study protocols and analysis plans.

The kick-off meeting set the foundation for the first project year, which will include the development of project governance, ethics and data management plans, and further preparation for collaborative studies in the different European cohorts.

We are excited for the work ahead!
